ABSTRACT
Most particle physicists hope that the standard model is not exactly correct; they hope for fundamentally new physics, and discrepancies between theory and experiment could be indications of that. In this chapter, I first will give some indications about such deviations; then I will describe how the standard model can be extended in such a way that the new version is valid up to distances ten trillion times smaller than those that can be presently resolved. This would be a giant step in the region beyond the nanoworld. But speculations go even further, as will be briefly discussed in the last section.
