ABSTRACT
This chapter describes experiments in which Ml was used to produce complete computer system designs. In these experiments, Ml utilized knowledge captured from hardware designers using CGEN. An indication of M l’s design space at the end of the experimental period is given by describing several synthesized designs. Experiments that illustrate M l’s design tradeoff capabilities and limi tations are also described. After the experimental period, knowledge about an 80386-based workstation design with a cache memory and AT bus interface was also added to Ml using CGEN; data for this design is also presented.
