ABSTRACT

If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.

As people move through their careers, they become very well versed in different personal and group behaviors, usually with different organizations. The challenge of the EHS professional is to understand and harness different behaviors and philosophies, to “move the needle” in a safety and health program. It’s hard to believe that with the exception of a few state-run OSHA and EPA plans, nearly all environmental health and safety standards are the same. Are they the same? Why do different people and companies comply with the same standards in different ways? The answer lies within people’s or organizations’ cultures and behaviors.
