ABSTRACT

Genetic variation at the gene and genome level can be observed as patterns of single nucleotide polymoprhisms (SNPs) and indels (insertions and deletions). Whereas genome sequencing projects focus on obtaining the full genome sequence of a single organism as a representative of a species, polymorphism studies focus on genome-wide variation present within a species. Although the full genome sequence of a species provides valuable information regarding homology and distribution of genes across a genome, it does not provide information regarding the dynamic processes that affect a genome and the genes therein.
