When we make an inference, we draw a conclusion based on evidence. Suppose you are a botanist in charge of a rare plant inventory. From extensive eld work, you nd that an endemic plant is absent in samples from a forest where it had been previously reported. As a result, you conclude that the species is in decline, and will require protective management.
