ABSTRACT
As far as Euler was concerned, the only possible diffi culty in this marriage might be the close friendship between Katharina’s father and Herr Schumacher , the obnoxious dictator of the academy. However, Euler was a diplomat who refused to let his personal feelings sour his relationship with his future father-in-law, and over time the Eulers even went to the occasional party at the Schumachers’ home.
