Site selection criteria for CO2 storage sites and implications for exploration

As the global CCS community grows fast and the re-

search activities and first application oriented

projects are gaining more and more momentum,

there are a growing number of handbooks, guide-

lines and reports defining or discussing site selection

criteria. The most prominent publications are maybe

written by Chadwick et al. (2008), Ringrose & Si-

mone (2009) and Det Norske Veritas (2010). This

paper intends to add some experiences gained during

decades of site screening and exploration for under-

ground storage of natural gas and eight years of

screening for CCS.
