ABSTRACT

Bonded particle model has gained considerable at-

tention in the rock mechanics field because of its

ability to simulate the strength, non-linear deforma-

tion behaviors of intact rock without using sophisti-

cated constitutive laws. However, Potyondy & Cun-

dall (2004) noted that the use of a circular particle

assembly in the Brazilian test and uniaxial compres-

sion tests results in a very low ratio of compressive

to tensile strength, as well as low friction angle un-

der higher confining pressures.
