ABSTRACT
The history of the king crab shery, and of the crab populations that have been exploited, is one of great variability. The great popularity of king crabs as a delicacy seafood item, and their subsequent high value, ensures that humans will continue to exploit them for many years. Given the information in this book, one can ask the question, what lies ahead for king crabs? Though Bob Otto touched on this subject in Chapter 5 from a population and shery perspective, I approach it here from a scientic research and management perspective. In this section, I will take the liberty to address expectations based on current knowledge, and future trends and needs in research and management of king crabs.
