In the 1970s, significant research efforts were devoted to the study of solar energy utilization because of the oil crisis. In the subsequent two decades, solar energy research was slowed down as the crisis was apparently alleviated. In recent years, due to the general concern of environment and global climate change, solar energy utilization has again become an attractive research area.
