ABSTRACT

In China, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) compounds were manufactured from 1965 to 1974 by four major producers: Xi’an Chemical Plant, Shanghai Electric Chemical Plant, Suzhou Solvent Plant, and Shanghai Sanzao Chemical Plant. Total amounts of PCBs produced were approximately 10,000 MT, of which 1,000 MT were pentachlorobiphenyl and 9,000 MT were trichlorobiphenyl. Pentachlorobiphenyl was used as a paint additive and trichlorobiphenyl was used as dielectric uid in capacitors. In the 1950s-1980s, uninformed of the risks, China imported from other countries a great deal of electric equipment containing PCBs [1].
