ABSTRACT
Many technologies have been developed in the past centuries to provide for human needs: procuring heat, light, and mechanical work for homes, agricultural and industrial use, transportation, and in general to facilitate a broad set of activities of life in the society. These technologies and systems share many features and the concept that unifies them is energy.
