ABSTRACT

Video-based rendering is at the locus of different research disciplines. It can draw on a wealth of previous work in computer vision, graphics, and video processing. While all these areas are concerned with visual information, each one of them has been regarded so far as a separate research field in its own domain. In contrast, image data acquisition, analysis, and synthesis must all work in concert to achieve convincing visual realism in VBR. This chapter covers a number of related topics and gives details of secondary techniques that constitute necessary prerequisites for successful video-based rendering.
