ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses numerical solution methods for the reactive transport equations presented in the previous chapter. Methods for discretization of the spatial and temporal domain are explained in section 5.2. As there already are excellent textbooks on the subject (e.g., Pinder and Gray, 1977; Huyakorn and Pinder, 1983; Zheng and Bennett, 1995; Bundschuh and Suárez-Arriaga, 2010), only a brief description of the two most important methods, finite differences and finite elements, is provided here. Following this description, methods used to solve the non-linear equations after the discretization are discussed in section 5.3.
