ABSTRACT
The study, analysis, and development of biomaterials are of key importance in the eld of clinically relevant orthopaedic devices. The main considerations are the biocompatibility and functional performance (e.g., mechanical, electrical, chemical) of the materials and systems involved. This chapter focuses on current, clinically available materials and emerging solutions for bone, cartilage, ligaments and tendons, and tissues of the spine.
