ABSTRACT

Several times in this book so far, we have mentioned that one of the key benefi ts of adopting electronic medical records (EMR) is the subsequent ability to exchange EMR data among various care providers. Why is it necessary for the systems used by various healthcare players (providers, payers, labs, etc.) to be able to communicate with each other electronically? How can such seamless communication be achieved? How can physicians and care givers benefi t from such information transfer?
