ABSTRACT

We were chatting at a reception at the Institute for Advanced Study celebrating the 2006 publication of Siobhan Roberts’s King of Infinite Space: The Man Who Saved Geometry, a biography of H. S. M. Coxeter. Coxeter, a British mathematician transplanted in Toronto, died in 2003 at the age of 96. Eric Neville had been his mentor and friend; Coxeter had been mine, and Longuet-Higgins’s.
