ABSTRACT

This paper has a particular point of view. It discusses not only the aug mented reality technology behind the wire bundle assembly application we have been developing at Boeing, but also all the unexpected technical prob lems and many of the non-technical problems we have had to solve in the process of implementing and testing this application. Moving technology as radically new as AR and wearable computers into a busy aircraft fac tory is not a simple undertaking. Every time you think you understand the requirements, you get surprised. Every time you think you have something ready to deploy, you encounter a new obstacle. Sometimes the obstacles are wearing suits.
