As can be seen from Figure 10.1, the data link layer is directly above the physical layer, being responsible for allowing a reliable exchange of data between two adjacent nodes. ˆe data link layer is composed of two sublayers:
• Logical link control (LLC), which deals with •ow control and error control. ˆese functionalities are implemented using protocols such as the IEEE 802.2, HDLC, point-to-point protocol (PPP), serial line Internet protocol (SLIP), and so on.
