ABSTRACT

The 40% of patients that do not die suddenly from their heart attack will often experience either chest pain, nausea, arm tingling, or other complaints as an indication of their heart attack. Those prudent enough to seek medical attention promptly can benefit greatly. Unfortunately for many individu als, this is a time when they procrastinate-denying that a heart attack could happen to them. Even physicians are guilty of this denial! We learn of too many cases of “ indigestion” that turn out to be heart attacks in retrospect. In many instances, the discom fort of a heart attack-and angina, too, for that matter-resem bles indigestion, is associated with belching, and is sometimes coincidentally relieved with antacids. It’s better to err on the side of safety. A new sensation in the chest, arm, jaw, or even abdomen that suggests heart disease should receive medical attention.
