ABSTRACT

This chapter will help the reader understand the reactions patients have when they find out that they have heart disease, what they must do in order to live with angina or hypertension, and how they can adjust to life after having experienced a heart attack or having undergone cardiac surgery. In addition, the chapter will address the attitudes and reactions of the families of the cardiac patient. One of the questions most frequently asked is when one can resume sexual activity. People mistakenly think that sexual intercourse is more dangerous than vacuuming the house or shoveling snow.
