ABSTRACT

Self-organized lightwave network (SOLNET) [1-9] is a novel optical

waveguide formation method, which utilizes an attractive force

induced between light beams in photo-induced refractive index

increase (PRI) materials. SOLNET, which is one of the core tech-

nologies in optical electronics, realizes self-aligned optical couplings

between optical devices, tolerating the mutual positional misalign-

ment. SOLNET can also form straight and even downtapered optical

waveguides in a free space, enabling 3-D optical wiring.
