ABSTRACT
Roads in mountains are curved while those in deserts are usually straight. Thus, we all understand curvature in some sense – indeed it would not be possible to ride a bicycle if we could not see a road curving. It is not difficult to formalise this into a measure of curvature of curves in the plane.
