ABSTRACT
Mathematics plays an important role in nding solutions to various types of engineering-and science-related problems. Its application ranges from nding solutions to interplanetary-related problems to designing safe and reliable equipment for use in the area of health care. The history of mathematics may be traced back to the development of our currently used number symbols over 2200 years ago. The very rst evidence of the use of these symbols is found on stone columns erected in 250 b.c. by the Scythian emperor Asoka of India [1]. However, the thinking on the probability concept is relatively new and it may only be traced back to the writings of Girolamo Cardano (1501-1576) in which he considered some interesting probability-related issues [1,2].
