ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the origin of natural lakes, beginning with specifi c geomorphological events and patterns of drainage and the respective types and characteristics.
Lakes’ origins and morphometry play an important role in their physical, chemical and biological processes, since, along with regional climatic processes, these factors contribute to the functioning of the lakes.
