ABSTRACT

Niels Bohr once said, “Prediction is very diffi cult, especially of the future”, but in thinking about what possibilities the future might hold for improving our understanding of conifer biology, particularly as viewed through the twin lenses of genomics and bioinformatics, it might be better to think in terms of a quotation widely attributed to the science fi ction writer, William Gibson: “The future is here. It’s just not evenly distributed yet.”
