ABSTRACT
Alkaloids are generally defined as a group of organic compounds of plant origin that contain nitrogen (except proteins, peptides, amino acids and vitamin B). However, many nitrogen containing compounds not only discovered from plants but also from marine products, microorganisms, fungi and insects, are considered alkaloids. Therefore, generally speaking, all organic compounds containing nitrogen from natural sources can be regarded as alkaloids.
