ABSTRACT

We trace a path of synergistic evolution in concepts and tools of time-domain photodynamics in cryogenic rare-gas hosts – experiment and theory. From kinetic studies, to controllable classical dynamics, to the interrogation of quantum coherences and decoherence, the tools that have enabled quantitative atomistic understanding of observables is traced along one logical path. We connect the foundations built on the minimalist systems – a diatomic in an atomic host – to the current activities in the more complex systems of polyatomics.
