ABSTRACT

Urbanization has adverse effects on the characteristics of local hydrology and stormwater quality. These effects have been realized in recent years and different approaches have been utilized to address and mitigate them. Urban stormwater quality concepts rely on empirical techniques and limited available data. Recently, considerable efforts have been made on urban stormwater quantity estimation and analysis. The emphasis of this chapter is on stormwater quantity analysis and related issues such as excess rainfall estimation, rainfall-runoff analysis, calculation of peak flow, and its occurrence time as well as hydrograph analysis. A detailed discussion on the effects of urbanization on stormwater quality and pollution is given in Chapter 7.
