ABSTRACT

A reductive vision of project success is the one that describes uncertainty and risk in terms of a threat to the success of the project. It is important to recall the importance of the concept of positive risk, that is, of opportunity. The risk factor is overwhelming, or even innate, and the true word to describe the situation is no longer risk, but uncertainty. Risk management in a complex context means to practice and get trained for the responsibility of coping with emergences, that is, situations which arise, and to educate with the aim of achieving the capability to cope with and respond to the situations of the project within the detected field of possibilities. On a case-by-case basis, the wisdom of the project manager will choose the most appropriate tools: maybe more than one, applying redundancy, in order to achieve the best possible awareness of the situation and find the best way to follow.
