ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the fact that environmental factors are important to enhance the leadership skills. Leadership in complex environments is a well-balanced combination of skills, knowledge, attitude, and tools. Project management body of knowledge (PMBoK) acknowledges that in everyday life a bidirectional communication flow is a value in itself, and that leadership is not a form of command, but rather the art of making people work together. The “assumption” of the PMBoK is to deal with linear projects. A project manager needs to master both the skills and the know-how described by the PMBoK before getting to the next level. Within living systems, and human ones are no exception, complexity arises from the relationships that exist between members. Using models and simulations is a great way of embracing project complexity, because participants can focus on results, rather than on the way of achieving them.
