ABSTRACT

Whiteboards are of interest because of the way they facilitate design discussions-and hence provide a glimpse into the design process. Design discussions at the whiteboard typically include explicit expressions of design decisions and rationale. What is drawn on the board typically feeds into later stages of design, and so the decisions made and the designs captured at the board are carried into subsequent representation and development. Some of the decisions that are made in collaboration at the whiteboard are very signicant: key requirements, architectures, and main user interfaces are o en sketched at this point.
