ABSTRACT

Due to the recent growth in e-commerce and the internet, the IT world has witnessed a humongous explosion of data. The global IT storage market is one of the fastest-growing fields, and requires constant and careful attention from managers and system administrators. More and more organizations are trying to focus in this fi eld, as their image to the users and in the market is heavily dependent on the policy they undertake to manage

this huge amount of data. It has been a challenge for several companies to maintain the highest level of system uptime and data availability 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Due to immense competition in the market to grab customers and keep them, companies all too often ask IT for a better technology to store and manage databases. With demands rising more than ever, two newer technologies-Network-attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN), have come into play. While NAS mostly deals with the low-end market, SAN is aimed at the high-end market. SAN handles the situation by separating data from the server’s operation, thereby reducing effective server load. SAN dedicates a sophisticated specialized network for data storage, management and continuous monitoring of data.
