ABSTRACT

Nanocoatings for Implants An implant is defi ned as an artifi cial object placed inside the body in order to replace, correct or repair a damaged bodily function. A variety of implants are in use today, examples of which include pins, rods and screws for bone repair and in some cases joint replacement. Other types of implants include electrical, such as artifi cial pacemakers, and biological, for example bio-materials surgically implanted to replace or repair damaged tissues and/or internal organs. Skin replacement and grafting of biomaterials on the surface of the body are also considered implants.
