How Microbes Sense and Respond to Force: A Single-Molecule View

Although single-molecule techniques have been increasingly used to probe the molecular basis of mechanosensing and mechanotransduction processes, applying these techniques to live cells remains very challenging. In this chapter, we discuss how the key capabilities of AFM have been applied to gain insight into the interactions, nanomechanics and supramolecular organization of their individual surface-associated proteins.
