ABSTRACT

In 2011, mobile video traffic exceeded 50% of mobile traffic for the first time, and it is predicted to increase 25-fold in the next five years, according to Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) [3]. Wireless video communications are facing a dilemma in achieving efficiency and robustness. On the one hand, videos in their raw format are huge in size, and they need to be efficiently compressed for transmission. On the other hand, compressed video sequences have too little redundancy left, and therefore are susceptible to channel errors.
