In a fast-moving environment, surrounded by information technology (IT) hype cycles, senior executives must regularly decide whether to invest in a new technology or not. eir investments can take multiple forms. A company may integrate a new technology into existing products; for example, embedding radio-frequency identication (RFID) chips or sensors into analog artifacts such as clothing or machine parts. A company might also decide to develop a whole new digital product or service from scratch. It might upgrade an older IT-based product or service. Or, it might change its operations with the help of IT functionality. In any case, senior managers should ask the following ethical questions:

1. What positive human values can be created by the new IT, and which of these are most important?
