ABSTRACT

Ethics can be considered as part of the proper study of human conduct. Ethics and moral principles should really not be in conflict. Philosophers have written about ethical and moral values and conduct for as long as we can remember. The early works go back to the biblical writers and others, e.g., Plato. In each culture there has been a host of writers who have studied these subjects with the concept that what is morally correct is what is most beneficial to the greatest number of people. Ethical behavior being defined as the rules pertaining to a group should then be the set of rules which is most beneficial to that group and to improving its image in the eyes of the general population. Writing and adopting a set of ethical practices, each professional group, including physicians, editors, engineers, lawyers, teach ers, accountants, auditors, quality personnel, and others, has in general adopted a code of ethics in an attempt to appear professional and to provide guidelines for its members. Morality, on the other hand, is often considered to be the rules that some outer and greater force set down under which people shall guide their conduct.
