ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The following article summarizes the main results from a recent survey (Goddard 2004) of maximum-entropy estimates for the statistics of quasi-static contact force or particle displacements in quasi-static assemblies of nearly rigid grains. It further shows that Bagi’s (1996) description of kinematics can be based uniquely on the notion of Delaunay simplicial complexes, without appeal to Voronoi-type material cells. Finally, it offers a brief elaboration on a virtualthermomechanics associated with granular entropy (Goddard 2004).
