ABSTRACT
Rock masses need to be characterised for engineering projects. This involves firstly defining a geological model which represents the relationships between the various rock units at a site. Boundaries between rocks of different ages might be conformable, unconformable, faulted or intrusive as discussed in Chapter 3. The parent rock may be weathered locally and the extent and nature of weathering is often an important consideration.
