ABSTRACT

Ceramics are widely used as insulators, primarily in various kinds of furnaces. The class of ceramics used for this purpose is called the refractories. Apart from heat resistance, these refractories should also possess a thermo-mechanical property called refractoriness under load (RUL). This chapter focuses on the various thermal and thermo-mechanical properties of ceramics.
