ABSTRACT

It is sometimes reckoned, by the ill-informed, that skin disease does not present acutely. This is quite untrue. A significant proportion of skin disease develops rapidly, is highly symptomatic, and can be associated with considerable morbidity. While most patients with acute skin disorders are initially seen by primary care services, ‘hot’ cases are also encountered in hospital emergency departments, and, of course, in dermatology clinics. However, for many of the clinicians who provide front-line medical care there is a relative lack of training in acute dermatology. This book aims to help meet that need.
