ABSTRACT

Pre-emptive analgesia blocks afferent noxious stimuli from sensitizing the central nervous system during surgery and helps to prevent postoperative pain2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Furthermore, effective pre-emptive analgesia reduces the amount of postoperative analgesic required to control pain3. Pre-emptive analgesia even negates the benefit of supplementary local anesthetic application (splash block) around the surgical site7.
