PROBLEMS OF CONTINUOUS SYSTEMS

A. Problems of Classical Electrodynamics

Problem 1 An electrized particle of charge q and mass m moves with velocity

~v in the variable electromagnetic field ( ~E, ~B), described by the electro-

magnetic potentials V (x, y, z, t) and ~A(x, y, z, t). Neglecting quantum and relativistic effects, show that the equation of motion of the particle can be written in a Lagrangian form, and determine the Lagrangian function L.
