ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The heart, like all other tissues of the body, requires oxygen-rich blood to maintain its function. The oxygenated blood is supplied to the heart by two arteries, namely the left and right coronary arteries. These two vessels, which are the first branches of the aorta, encircle or ‘coronate’ the heart and through their branches supply blood to the myocardium (6-9)1,2.
