ABSTRACT

A. Introduction It is known that 3d metal-based amorphous alloys obtained by rapid quenching of the melt are excellent soft magnetic materials. The usual approach to the atomic structure of ordered magnetic solids assumes lattice periodicity. Such a framework idea is not applicable for metallic glasses, which are defined as solids in which the orientation of local symmetry axes fluctuate with a typical correlation length J ""' 10 A. Therefore, it has been and still it is an important challenge within the scientific knowledge of magnetic materials to unravel the fundamental physics that underlies their excellent technical properties.
