ABSTRACT

Thus far, we have not said much about blackjack or 21, arguably the most popular casino table game and certainly one of the most popular subjects of casino mathematics study. There are good reasons for this-some mathematical, some logistical:

• As mentioned in Section 3.2, successive hands of blackjack are not independent, and so the Multiplication Rule in its simplest form is not applicable. In part because of this nonindependence, the probability of winning a hand and the expected value of a bet are somewhat more difficult to calculate.
