ABSTRACT

Chlorinated ethenes, such as perchloroethene (PCE; C2Cl4), and trichloroethene (TCE; C2HCl3), were typically used in a variety of industries as degreasing agents and dry cleaning solvents. This was due to their physical and chemical properties, as well as their low cost. Their extensive use combined

with accidental releases and improper treatment and disposal have led to widespread contamination in the environment.
