ABSTRACT
As was commented in the previous chapters, a considerable amount of research has been focused in recent years on trying to remediate contaminated soils instead of destroying or isolating them. Remediation may have several outcomes in terms of soil pollution (Nathanail and Bardos 2004) as is schematized in Fig. 1. Among these, the complete or substantial destruction/ degradation of the pollutants is the preferred solution in many cases.
