ABSTRACT

Various organizations throughout the world create fire standards. These include both national and

international organizations. In the United States, the most important organization setting fire

standards organization is the American Society for resting and Materials (ASTM). Fire standards

are also developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Underwriters

Laboratories (UL) and some labor organizations, such as Factory Mutual (FM), the Institution

of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Insulated Cable Engineers' Association

(ICEA), but such standards are often similar to the ones issued by ASTM. The International

Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission

(1EC) are the primary international standard - making bodies. All of these organizations create

various types of fire standards - mainly guidance documents and test methods addressing most of

the major fire properties.
